Mildred Alverta Yancey entered into her eternal rest on Jan 14, 2023. Born on May 31, 1929, in Norfolk, VA. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Edgar Goodman. Mildred was educated in Norfolk Public School where she obtained her High School diploma. Mildred retired as a Housekeeper and Nanny for James and Jean Alexander where she provided a loving service to them and their children. Mildred was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and served as an usher. She was the beloved wife of Nathaniel Yancey Sr. who preceded her in death. Mildred leaves behind two sisters, Lessie Pender of Norfolk, Virginia and Carrie Goodman of Norfolk, Virginia. Two sisters-in-laws, Nanny Ruth Royster and Mary Epps of Oxford, North Carolina, and one brother-in-law Marshall Yancey of Louisville, Kentucky. Mildred was the mother of 6 children. A daughter, Linda Diane Daughtery preceded her in death. Remaining to cherish her memory are three daughters JoAnne Calton, husband Willie Calton, Patricia Adeniyi, husband Olayinka; Anita Brown, husband William; sons Leon Goodman, wife Maxine, and Nathaniel Yancey Jr., wife Venessa. Mildred’s legacy includes 7 grandchildren, Kevin Eugene Goodman of Norfolk, Virginia, DeLaine Goodman-Richardson, husband Kelsey of Norfolk, Virginia, Toyin Adeniyi of Columbus, Ohio, Tola Udoh of Newburgh, Indiana, Taiye Adeniyi of Newburgh, Indiana; Kehinde Adeniyi of Newburgh, Indiana, and Olayinka Adeniyi, Jr. wife, Biola of Chicago, Illinois, 5 great grandchildren, Brycen Harper and Braylon Harper of Norfolk, VA; Addison Udoh and Zara Udoh of Newburgh, Indiana, and Anna Adeniyi of Chicago, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
